Predicting & Preventing failures...

A major steel plant in South India uses 11 KV motors. In a continuous production unit, non-stop operation of these motors is vital. However, these motors often failed without warning causing substantial production losses.

The problem was analyzed and it was identified that partial discharges in the motor were causing deterioration of insulation resulting in sudden motor failure.As a part of the solution, PD couplers were installed on the motors, which would enable measurement of partial discharge. Josts engineers carried out regular PD measurements on the motors with an analyzer and carried out a detailed analysis.

This enabled Josts to monitor health of the insulation and also forecast probable failure period. Maintenance was carried out in time to prevent failure. With these advance predictions of probable failures, it was possible to take corrective actions in time and prevent any production losses.
